Praying Scripture

Pentecost

This week we remember and celebrate Pentecost, when the Holy Spirit was poured out into God’s people. What an amazing gift! God the Spirit coming to us and living within us, so that we are never alone, never without God’s presence. Although we may not always sense God’s presence, Scripture tells us that if we have put our faith in Jesus, he gives us the gift of the Holy Spirit to be with us always.

Each day we’ll meditate on a verse that tells us something of the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives. Let’s ponder these words deeply, allowing the Holy Spirit to renew our hope, to increase our confidence, to strengthen our faith and witness, and to fill us with peace and joy.

Monday: I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws. Ezekiel 36:26-27

Tuesday: Having believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance… Ephesians 1:13-14

Wednesday: Hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us. Romans 5:5

Thursday: The Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express. Romans 8:26

Friday: After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly. Acts 4:31

Saturday: May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Romans 15:13
